Our Story
From My Grandmother's Table
I was raised next door to my grandparents, on stories of hardship, resilience, and tradition. My grandmother taught me to speak, read, and write in Assyrian - to appreciate our culture and understand why keeping our language alive matters.
With her help, I visited local families - descendants of some of the first Assyrians to settle in the United States -and documented their stories. They entrusted me with family photographs and old letters, which became Assyrians of New Britain, a book published through Arcadia Publishing under their Images of America Series. It was my first step towards honoring and preserving our history.
This collection of games, toys, and educational activities carries that same purpose forward.
Marganita continues that work: keeping the language alive, one word, one game, one story at a time.
